Mayor of Barcelona announces Mercabarna’s future projects
Over the next five years, Mercabarna will be “redesigned” to consolidate its position as the leading Mediterranean food cluster and one of the top fresh-produce suppliers to all of Europe. The plan was announced by Barcelona mayor Jordi Hereu on 14 October, during his visit and subsequent press conference at Mercabarna.
A market designed to lead the flower sector
Professionals from the flower and plant sector have a new meeting place in Mercabarna-flor, a singular building located in Sant Boi de Llobregat. It is also well-connected and offers a wide variety of products and services for professionals. This is Mercabarna’s major bid for invigorating and leading the flower sector in Catalonia.

On 4 October, Mercabarna’s Central Fish Market wholesalers held a dinner organised by the Barcelona and Province Fresh and Frozen Fish and Seafood Wholesale Consignees’ Guild (GMP) to celebrate the Central Fish Market’s 25th anniversary.

On 18 September, Mercabarna hosted the visit of several Spain-wide consumer associations, including the National Civic Union Federation of Consumers and Housewives of Spain (UNAE), the Federation of Independent Users and Consumers (FUCI), the Consumers’ Union of Spain (UCE) and the General Consumers’ Association (ASGECO).

The city of Lleida hosted the 54th annual St Michael’s Fair and the 23rd annual Eurofruit show from 25 to 29 September, and Mercabarna was there.
Oslo Flower Market executive at Mercabarna-flor
The new Mercabarna-flor is beginning to spark the interest of flower-sector professionals the world over. Proof of this was the visit which the director of the central flower market of Oslo, Norway, and a delegation of wholesalers from the market made to the new centre on 20 September.
5 October: official opening of Mercabarna-flor and Mercademostraciones
Flower-sector professionals have a rendezvous at Mercabarna-flor on 5 October. This date has been earmarked not only for the official opening of the new Mercabarna-flor that has been in operation since 1 September, but also for the 25th annual Mercademostraciones show.
